Mercedes to debut new s65 amg
at detroit auto show
Mercedes-Benz will introduce a
new S65 AMG at the 2006 North American International
Auto Show in Detroit. Like the previous S65 AMG, this
latest incarnation will be powered by a hand-assembled
twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 engine, putting out
612 hp at 4750 rpm and a brutal 738 lb-ft of torque
at 2000 rpm.
According to Mercedes, that's enough
to hurl the car from 0 to 125 mph in a mere 13.3 seconds.
Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.
To complement its wild engine,
the new S65 AMG also gets revisions to its active body-control
system, and more-powerful brakes.
For those who won't have the privilege
of experiencing the S65 AMG from the cabin, there's
still plenty to drool over from the outside -- the car
gets a number of unique exterior cues, including AMG
19-inch alloy wheels and a meaner-looking front fascia.
Expect the new S65 AMG in North
American showrooms starting July 2006. Prices haven't
been announced, but it's safe to assume they'll be $175k
or more.
