Volkswagen GTI makes its debut at L.A. Auto Show

Volkswagen went straight for performance enthusiasts' hearts with the revival of its storied GTI nameplate at the January 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show. Good performance for this new GTI is ensured by a 200-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder powerplant and standard six-speed manual transmission.

To help differentiate the car from the more prosaic Golf that it's based on, the GTI has such exterior goodies as a roof-mounted spoiler, red brake calipers, and optional 18-inch alloy wheels.

The GTI is expected to be in showrooms in late January 2006, with a sticker price starting at $20,340.
